Deep Tissue Massage (Therapeutic)

With 7 layers of fascia, a deep tissue massage is the best option in addressing chronic pain due to impact injury, sports injury, trauma or whiplash.

Because of the precise nature in which tissue adhesions are broken up to increase circulation and lymph flow to specific areas, deep tissue work must be performed by a Registered Massage Therapist who has been trained in the specialized knowledge of neuromuscular anatomy.

Deep tissue massages vary in the level of discomfort you may feel. At all times, open communication with your massage therapist is encouraged as they can adjust their work to alleviate pain.

After your Deep Tissue Massage, Stretch! Don’t Sleep!

While you may feel ‘sleepy’ after a massage, the best thing to do is engage in light stretches to help avoid stiffness and/or soreness you may feel within 24 – 48 hours. Your massage therapist at the Chiropractic Health Centre can inform you of what stretches you should be doing.

You May Experience Soreness, Headaches, or Nausea after a Deep Tissue Massage

Sometimes you may experience muscle soreness/tenderness not unlike what you might feel after an intense workout anywhere within 24 – 48 hours after your massage. This should fade over time.

Although rare, some people experience a headache during or shortly after a deep tissue massage. Inform your massage therapist if this occurs, as they may be able to help alleviate the pain before you go home.

Nausea after a deep tissue massage is not uncommon. Hydrate before your massage to counter this reaction.
